Private ultrasound scans.
Ultrasound uses sound waves to create live pictures. It is quick, painless and uses no radiation, which makes it the best first test for many questions about the abdomen, pelvis, neck and soft tissues.

What we scan
Liver, gallbladder, pancreas, kidneys and spleen, for example for gallstones or abnormal liver blood tests.
Womb and ovaries, or bladder and prostate.
Neck lumps, swollen glands and thyroid nodules, when there is a clinical reason to scan.
Soft tissue lumps under the skin, hernias and swellings.
Shoulder, elbow, wrist, knee, ankle and Achilles problems, often with the joint moving during the scan.
Aneurysm screening for men aged 65 and over, or earlier with strong risk factors.
An ultrasound of the heart, for a murmur, breathlessness or a family history of heart muscle disease.
On the day
- Usually 15 to 30 minutes. Cool gel on the skin and a small probe moved over the area.
- Abdominal scans: you may be asked not to eat for a few hours beforehand.
- Pelvic scans: you may be asked to arrive with a full bladder.
- No radiation, so it is safe to repeat and safe in pregnancy.
Our team includes Nathan Briganti, an advanced practice physiotherapist and MSK sonographer, for joint and tendon problems.
Scans take place at accredited partner imaging centres in the North West. We confirm the location and give you directions when you book.

Worth knowing
Ultrasound cannot see through bone or air, so it is not used for the brain, lungs or most of the bowel. If another test would answer your question better, your GP will tell you.
We do not offer routine thyroid ultrasound for people without symptoms. In healthy people it often finds small, harmless nodules that lead to further tests without benefit.
